Butterfly Card How-to & Holiday Catalog Sneak Peek

It's been a whirlwind since convention but I'm finally back with some how-to photos and tips for the butterfly card I swapped at Stampin' Up's late July convention.
I'm going to start with the Holiday Catalog sneak peeks though. They unveiled the catalog (which starts Sept. 1) at convention -- so I can show you the cover.
They will be mailed to my customers later in August and available online to view all the yummy inside pages starting Sept. 1.
There are some fun kits inside -- including this awesome home decor piece for Halloween: it's a beautiful witches hat that would be perfect in the center of a dining table, on a buffet or hall table. You get everything in the kit to make this except the stamp set used -- which is sold separately.
I am in love with a new die-cutting framelit set which includes a beautiful window and a coordinating stamp set for things you can see through the window. So there are fall and holiday images.
Now here are my how-to steps and tips for this butterfly card made with the Watercolor Wings stamp set and matching Bold Butterfly Framelits.
The Watercolor Wings set is photopolymer -- so completely clear -- which makes it so easy to layer the various pieces to make a beautiful butterfly. But you want to start with a darker color ink so you can then better see where to place the other layers -- so you start with the images that would be the accent layers. Here I started with the image that is the edges of the wings and Bermuda Bay ink.
Step 2 is to add the base layer image in Pool Party ink.
The stamps have the shading and distressed look built in! Love that. Step 3 for my card was the center detail and dots image added with Island Indigo ink -- and I'll explain the note about the body after the photo.
So the body that you see in the middle of the image above is added with a separate stamp -- and you need to stamp it in just the right place or else when you die-cut the butterfly, you will cut off the head or tail. There are two choices: you can stamp it after die-cutting (because you can see through the stamp for easy placement on the die-cut butterfly) or you can use a dark card stock stencil cut with the butterfly outline framelit, place that over the stamped image temporarily (position just like you would the metal framelit when you cut it out) -- and then just stamp the body right through the positioned stencil for perfect placement.
Once the stamped image is die cut -- I wrap some of our new gold thread a few times around my fingers -- and adhere behind the body with two of our foam Dimensionals adhesive.
The words "thanks" and "hello" that I used on my cards that I swapped were die cut with the new Greetings thinlits from Gold Glimmer paper -- I love the size of the words in these Thinlits as they are perfect for card fronts.
